Unlawful Use of a Weapon
Unlawful Possession of a Weapon charges in Chicago - case dismissed.
Our client faced felony Unlawful Possession of a Weapon charges in Chicago after an arrest for Driving While Suspended. The police searched his vehicle and found his loaded handgun. Our client was properly licensed to carry in his home state, but Illinois does not recognize permits from other states. The police claimed to have confronted our client initially because he was illegally parked. The Cook County State's Attorney gave their standard offer of a year in prison, in accordance with their office policy. They do not offer probation on felony gun cases, no matter the circumstance. Careful investigation showed that according to independent witnesses, our client was not in fact illegally parked, and careful cross-examination of the officer on the stand showed that her story didn't add up. The Judge ordered all charges dismissed.
