Illinois DUI law is complex, and your defense should be handled by an attorney competent in handling Lake County DUI (drunk driving) defense.  While DUI law is consistent throughout Illinois, each county court has different procedures for DUI or drunk driving.  To properly defend your Lake County DUI case your lawyer needs to know the inner workings of the court in which your case will be heard, because not knowing can be devastating.

Fees for DUI

Given the possible penalties, hiring a Lake County DUI lawyer based on price is a mistake.  Realistically, you can expect that attorneys who charge rock bottom fees will do the minimum and nothing more.  The Illinois attorneys of Fagan, Fagan & Davis offer a free consultation, face to face, before we set a fee.  We examine your case, and your situation.  You walk out knowing the legal pitfalls and your options.  We tell you up front what legal fees to expect for our best efforts defending your Lake County DUI case and your drivers license.

Possible Penalties for Lake County DUI Cases

Illinois DUI ( Drunk Driving ), at its least severe, is a class A misdemeanor punishable by up to $2500 in fines, and up to 364 days in jail.  Typical fines and costs for a first offender in Lake County amount to around $2000.00. In some cases, felony criminal charges may apply.  Conviction automatically revokes your Illinois drivers license.  Revocation means permanent loss of privileges until the Secretary of State of Illinois decides otherwise.  In most cases, a DUI arrest results in a summary drivers license suspension for a minimum of three months, up to as many as three years.

What to Do When Stopped for DUI

Always be respectful to police officers.  They will attempt to use attitude,  yours or theirs, to open your mouth and get you to make statements which can be used against you to prove DUI in court.  That's their JOB, and they are skilled!  Let your Lake county lawyer do the talking later . . .
